Who was talking about India? Huh? What?
India is rich, in many things, resources, population, religions and information technology. If you give it a little thought India is at the forefront of one of the most developing nations in the world, next to China. By that I mean the changes that we are experiencing in the west are literally on speed in India, the divide between the rich and the poor, the educated and non educated – is getting narrower. This is a complex, heavy topic, socialogically it could be an absolute disaster on the worlds resources the more savvy they become, and the more the west and the east meet in the middle. Everyone wants to be a part of the changes, the revolution and more or less be like each other, well I do anyway.
As a child I dreamt of the world population being one race – chime in “We are the world, we are the children” that generations of inter-racial mating would end in a super race, one that was devoid of racism. Ultimately if we are all people of the world let us not be divided by our differences but be joined by our similarities. My very simplistic perspective, if we don’t have the visible differences of colour then that is one less challenge for everyone to face.
Modern day…………the world right now has problems that seem too big for us to process. Poverty, global waste disasters, technology, inequality and climate change to name a few. In a nutshell the human race has pretty much gone to the destructive line in the sand and we need to come back, get back off of the line. Most of the time we are too busy moving in the same direction to and from work, school and social activities and that side trip down the lane way to see something different isn’t there unless we seek it out. Therefore we can miss it. We might see it on our facebook feeds, watch a bit of the news but in all reality its a bit vox pop, in your face for a minute or two and then we continue on and we forget, well sort of……..
….Never in my life have I noticed so much the divide between rich and poor, or the has and wants. The business of manufacturing products which are more accessible to all classes of income are choking the world, we are all consuming, cheap throw away products, fashion and fast foods, simplistically cheap vs needs, and currently cheap is winning! Enter stage left India and China into our ‘Maslo’s heirachy of needs’.
Back to the question of “What will happen to India?” This is merely a metaphor. India is growing, it is so intrinsically woven into our progress and development in the west that now India – what was historically a nation of a massive divide between the classes is now merging. The lower castes are rising, having access to more technology and education and in turn they to are beginning to consume with the same voracity to us, the west. And why not? They have needs and desires like the rest of us, they didn’t necessarily have electricity to use these goods but they are getting access to it now. This topic isn’t about India and highlighting the comparison between us and them, but more opening up the discussion of how we navigate into the future of manufacturing, commerce and consumption. It’s about a collective conscious and integrated platform of commerce and industry.
Holy heck that took a bit to get out………………….. Sometimes my head is not as articulate as I wish it was, but the intent is.
So inch by inch, as I reassess how I can live better, with less impact and how to be a part of this new world all I know is that I want to be a part of it. WTF am I talking about? Let me digress and pull it apart.
I understand that this is a heavy topic, quite hard to put ones head around, and I am really not going to do it any justice in a few paragraph giving a synopsis from my own perspective. What I will do though is suggest some places to go on to on your mission to find some more information about what the new world could look like, everyone sharing, the global economy being accessible by everyone (not just the few) and how this will effect us, and whether or not if we like the idea it is one that needs to happen and is happening.
Check out these blogs/websites for more information on sustainable / sharing economy. How are you going to be involved? I know what I am doing.

Not much has changed on how we feel, but lots is changing on what we do with those feelings.
